Coach Carmen has been a competitive walker since 1986, making the US 50k Women’s Racewalk Teams in 2015 and 2016. She has been coaching walkers for over 20 years and is a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach. She also has training in postural alignment exercises, as well as a Barefoot Training Specialist certificate from the Evidence Based Fitness Academy.
This one-hour session covers the race walking technique and so much more. You will learn to improve your flexibility, posture, stride, arm swing, and foot strength to get fit and fast.

Race Walk 102
This 75-minute session covers the basics of track practice, and includes a sample training plan which allows you to create your own program. We start by reviewing your race walk technique. Next, we’ll cover track etiquette. Then we’ll learn about three different types of workouts that are geared to burn fat, build your endurance base and improve leg speed. Lastly, we’ll learn pacing and a guide to determine your proper stride length for maximum efficiency.
Cost: $40 per person.
Ready to be on a regular training schedule or looking to train for a race? E-coaching allows you to receive one-on-one coaching from your home. This is a great option for walkers living outside the Portland, Oregon area. You will receive a personalized written training schedule that is based on your skill level and walking goals, along with the ability to get all your training questions answered through email.

Weekly Track Practice
Get Fit – Have Fun – Walk Fast!
Gather your walking buddies or relay team members for some structured workouts! Weekly track sessions are a fun and affordable way to help improve your race walk technique, speed, and efficiency. You will learn a series of drills and stretches to help you stay strong and avoid injury. The one-hour weekly session includes a structured cardio workout based on your fitness level. These Portland area sessions will help you understand how track practice will impact your overall fitness and racing results.
SUMMER TRACK PRACTICE STARTS THE THIRD WEEK OF MAY AND GOES THROUGH THE THIRD WEEK IN AUGUST
Cost: $15 drop-in fee per session or $12.50 per session when you pay for the full 12-week package.

YOUTH TRACK PRACTICE STARTS THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL
Join the fun!
Coach Carmen does her youth program a little differently than most. She combines youth and adults athletes in the same session. Yes, you can enroll your child and sit on the sidelines, but parents who sign up for weekly track practice pay half price when their child is enrolled with them. While they do different workouts, the benefit of sharing the track gives parents the opportunity to do a workout together. Coach Carmen has been offering this option “unofficially” for several years but is now advertising the sessions because it encourages family time. Workout locations and times are the same as the Weekly Track Practice. Starting in May, you’ll find us at Grant HS on Wednesday evenings, Twality Middle School on Thursday evenings , as well as a Beaverton track. However, if your child wants to compete, you’ll want to start with weekly track practice in April because there are several local races for them to enter in May and June. There are also regional and national competitions in July. Please contact Coach Carmen right away if you are interested in the youth program.
