Today is Earth Day, and we wanted you to know that we are a brand that offers ways to reuse, reduce and recycle. Reshod® Walking Shoes were not created in the typical environment of a footwear brand. Unable to convince athletic brands to embrace her idea, Coach Carmen® enlisted the help of shoe repair shops to develop her Pushover® concept. This difference lead to a unique option for her customers. The shoes have no molded parts. Each style is built with a die-cut and buff construction, which means that the parts are laminated together and the outsole can be peeled off and replaced. Portland Shoe Repair resoles many Reshod® Walking Shoes. Owner, David Svidenko, has replaced the full outsole with the original Vibram Link (style #586) outsole up to three times on a single pair! If you tend to wear down only the heels, there’s no need to replace the entire outsole. He charges about $30 for a heel rebuild with a new rubber heel section. Customers love this option to extend the life of their shoes. Our uppers are sturdy enough to withstand multiple cycles of reuse. However, the insoles are a different story. They will compress over time and need to be replaced. You can purchase a new pair of insoles on our website to give you that “new shoe” feel.
Reshod® Walking Shoes Ambassador Liz Shepard is a walking coach in the Denver Colorado area. She actually gathers her walkers’ worn shoes and delivers a group order to her local shoe repair.
As you can see in the photo, the red Pushover® style received the same Vibram Link option that was on the original shoe, but the blue Coach Carmen® style did not. Sadly, that outsole is only available for purchase at the factory level. However, shoe repair shops have plenty of other options. Liz chose the Vibram Newflex (style 8860), which is a blown rubber option that is lightweight and has great traction.
“Could you believe it is the third time these shoes (look at the picture) are resoled, they have been tortured in the snow, salts, rain, cold weather that we have here in Montreal! And they are looking yet very good and they are yet comfortable. Believe it or not! I have trained in them to racewalk around 1800 miles in 3 full seasons 2018-2019-2020. All my salutations, you did an excellent design.” Thank you Denis for sharing your story!!!
The key to a successful resoling is to head to your local shoe repair before there’s too much damage. While the heel foam is commonly found in shoe repair shops, the toe foam is not. If you wear through the toe section, they will not be able to rebuild that area. Also, it’s a good idea to ask them to wrap the outsole up onto the toe as done in the original shoe. This helps protect your toes if you trip during a walk. If that’s not possible, have them super glue the tip so it will not delaminate and create a tripping hazard of its own.
