Santee, California – Saturday, January 26th
Dr. Stephanie Casey fought through a very hot and windy race to finish 2nd overall in the Women’s USA 50k Race Walk Championships this past weekend, in Santee, California. The mother of four from Reedsport, OR walked the 31.25 miles in a time of 5:00:04. Michael Mannozzi of Toronto, Canada took 3rd in the Men’s race, finishing in a time of 5:07:54. Coach Carmen had hoped to walk the 50k in 5:45 in order to qualify to compete at the 2020 Olympic Trials for that distance. However, the weather conditions did not allow for a fast time. She dropped out at the 30k mark to recover and try again later this summer. Darlene Backlund was the oldest competitor in the Women’s 50k. At age 73, she donned her red distance Reshod Walking Shoes and finished in a time of 7:29:04. Congratulations to Team Reshod. We wish you the best as you represent the U.S. in upcoming international competitions.
