Santee, CA – January 20, 2018. This year’s trip to San Diego included all the elements that I love about a road trip: adventure, great weather, food, family time, and race walking. Five Portland area race walkers ranging in age from 13 – 69 years joined me on my fifth trip to the USATF 50k National Race Walk Championships in Santee, California. I continued my tradition of racing in prototypes but opted for the 5k Non-Championship distance this year since training time has been sparse. We met up on Friday before dawn at Portland International Airport and raced the following morning.
Seeing RED – Over 10% of the starters wore Reshod Walking Shoes, as well as a photographer who was covering the race. Coach Carmen raced in prototypes of the blue race shoes set to hit the shelves later this year. She spent the rest of the day talking to walkers at the Reshod Walking Shoes booth, which was set up along the race course.
Race Results – Mariah won the Youth 2.5k in a time of 17:14, sporting her racing-red Reshod Walking Shoes. She walked very even splits and finished strong. Her mother, Lydia, finished 2nd in the 20k (just 2 1/2 minutes shy of the US Outdoor National Track and Field Championships qualifying standard in June). Lydia had an awesome first race at this distance and plans to lock down that standard in April.
Reshod customer, Robert, in his debut race walking event, finished 7th overall in a very respectable 10k time of 74:52.
Our next road trip will be to the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships in Spokane, WA, July 26-29, 2018. If you would like to join us, contact Coach Carmen. She offers race walk training, along with product to get you started.
